Bush twins strike out on their own

WASHINGTON— The Bush twins are breaking out of the Beltway bubble.


Jenna Bush plans to teach in Latin America, and sister Barbaramoved to New York City recently for a job at a museum, according to two sources familiar with the twins’ plans.

Post’s gossip writers wondered in a column Thursday that reported Jenna’s plans.


Two sources who confirmed the twins’ moving plans spoke on condition of anonymity, citing President and Laura Bush’s insistence on protecting their 24-year-old daughters’ privacy. The first couple rarely discuss them in public, although the president kidded at an appearance in Omaha this month: “You think my hair is gray because I’m president?” he said to a father of two girls. “No, my hair is gray because of teenage daughters.”


Barbara is the slightly older one who attended Yale and has worked with AIDS patients. She moved to New York to work at the Cooper Hewitt National DesignMuseum.


Jenna attended the University of Texas in Austin. She joined her sister on the 2004 campaign trail before starting a job as a third grade teacher at Elsie Whitlow Stokes Community Freedom Public Charter School inWashington.


Jenna’s plans to move to Latin America appear relatively new.


First lady Laura Bush told exchange students in Vienna last week that one of her daughters “has justmoved out.”


“The other one lives in an apartment and is teaching school,” Laura Bush said in an apparent reference to the soon-to-depart.
